Are Nutritional Supplements for Me?

I am often asked, “Why do I need to take any supplements?  Isn’t my diet enough?”  Unfortunately, if you want your body working at its best, you have got to supplement your diet with high quality supplements.  Unless you want to eat 10 pounds of organic spinach daily, it is nearly impossible to get all of the good stuff your body needs from food alone. Even though I recommend eating a clean diet to promote health, eating clean still isn’t enough.

Depleted soils, mass farming, and the process of filling our foods with preservatives and various hormones have essentially zapped the core nutrients out of most of our food. We continue to hear about the endless benefits of essential nutrients like vitamin D, branches of vitamin B and omega-3 fatty acid that are missing from our diet. I have found that adding high quality supplements and vitamins to my diet has optimized my health. Once I began to supplement my diet with some of these essential nutrients, I realized the negative effect missing the “good stuff” had on my health.

Healthy is the New Skinny: Eat Clean

Eat Clean

What does it mean to eat “clean” you ask? Simply put, eat food in its whole form. The best bet is to stay away from processed foods, white sugar and flours, and stick with eating lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables.
We need to begin to see our bodies as machines, because if you think about it, they really are! Machines that are well taken care of work well and can be useful for a long time. On the other hand, machines not well taken care of do not last long and in the end fail to be useful. Why would we expect anything different from our bodies? We have to take care of ourselves to keep them running at their best so they do not fail us. We have to fuel them with the right kinds of food and supplements and stop putting poisons in our bodies that will only cause us to fail in the end.
If you want to enjoy life, feel great and look your best, you will find eating clean will be something you do for the rest of your life! Why would we expect anything different from our bodies? We can’t keep to do that to our own bodies and expect a long life, health, and do that to our own bodies? Why is it important to keep our bodies running at our best? There are tons of health related reasons, but how about just the way it makes you feel? I always feel at my best when I am treating my body as a machine and fueling it with the best!

Healthy is the New Skinny: Drink Water

Drink Water 

Your body is made up of 60% of water and it needs to be maintained and replenished everyday. Not drinking enough water can lead to bloating, retaining water, as well as keeping your body from removing toxins and getting rid of fat. Research shows that drinking more water speeds up the body’s metabolism. It is ideal to drink 80-90 oz of water to keep your body hydrated and working at its best. I know it sounds like a lot but once you feel the difference it makes, it will be worth it. You can always add a little bit of fresh lemon or lime or even a little sprinkle of Crystal Light for flavor. Start to get into the habit of keeping water with you wherever you go and down 8 oz of water before and after every meal. Most likely you will become more familiar with many of the public restrooms out there, but it won’t last long, your body will adjust.

Why You Need a Cheat Day!

Cheating can be good!

When you are starting to work hard and clean up your diet, often times you can feel a bit fatigued or sluggish, similar to the crash you feel coming off of a sugar high. To help with that, Spark is a healthy way to help you have mental focus and feel the energy you might be missing. Another way is to add in a cheat meal or day one time per week, depending on how low your body fat is. If you feel a lack of self control, still feel cravings, wait until you think have the discipline to fit it in.
Here’s why it can be great:
*Physically- High calorie intake from a cheat meal can actually boost your metabolism thus help aid the body to burn fat more quickly and give you increased energy for following workouts.
*Success- To maintain a lifestyle of healthy, clean eating for years to come, it can be helpful to “cheat” once a week so that you don’t feel like you can never eat sweet things again!

To “Diet” or Not To “Diet”

Anyone who has tried to diet knows that it is not an easy task, especially if eating healthy is a foreign concept to you. All too often people with lofty goals and high hopes, choose such restrictive, almost impossible diets, that inevitably failure occurs.

As a result, you will reap the benefits such as having more energy or weight loss or just feeling great but in this manner it will be long lasting and life changing. The bottom line is that whether you are a person looking to lose weight or who wants to lean out and tone up, you need to eat a “clean” diet.
